CD Review: Eminem - Recovery

I must say Eminem sounds great on this CD. If you are a true fan you will love it. He finally drops that stupid accent he was rapping with for a bit there.
Some of the songs are the same ole same that he talks about but his original flow and rhymes are there. Before Recovery, he was sounding like this on songs like Forever and Drop the World. Well, expect to see him going full force here. However, at times it felt as if he was just plain angry throughout the album. He tends to almost yell out them lyrics, which is good and bad. It takes some energy to listen to it all!

The song with Lil Wayne called "No Love" is excellent.
Worth a listen.

CD Review: Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives

"Distant relatives" is a collaborative effort by Rapper Nas and Reggae singer Damian Marley (Bob Marley's son). Recorded with a live band, it's a Reggae/Hip hop hybrid which works rather well.
This album takes Hip Hop and Reggae to another level. It is refreshing and something Hip-Hop badly needed, originality!
This is a superb album, both from a production standpoint (with production by Damian and Stephen Marley) and from a lyrical standpoint. The Hip-Hop Reggae hybrid is perfect. For anyone who does not believe hip hop can have a positive message, give this album a listen.

CD Review: Justified Homicide - You Might Die

The new CD from Justified Homicide has high and low points. Hailing from South Carolina the new album is called "You Might Die". The group is talented and can flow but the subject matter does not switch too much throughout the CD. Now this could be a good thing if you are a fan of Hardcore Rap. If you are more into Common or a more radio friendly club style Hip-Hop artist then you will not like this CD. For those of you into this style then please check them out.

The album opens with "Bring Em Up". The songs displays the group at it's best flow wise. They sound great. Lyrically I can't really say they are breaking any new ground. They pretty much talk about what every other hardcore rapper talks about.
That doesn't always mean that they suck. Like I said before if you love Hardcore rap then you will love them.
Track 4 on the CD is a good song and funny at times. The song is called "It's Not Over" and it has to do with a sour relationship and is worth checking out.

Another good song is "Nu Nu" which is about getting some new pu--y. It is comedic at times and a great addition to the album.

My favorite song is "Don't F--- Around". Good beat and good flow equals a good song.
Now to when reviewing this group you have to take it for what it is. It is a special genre of Hip-Hop that many love but tons of true old school Hip-Hop heads hate.

I take it for what it is which is a good solid Hardcore Rap album.

CD Review: Fabolous - There Is No Competition 2

Fabolous has a new mixtape and it is your standard deal with some original tracks and a bunch of songs over already used industry beats. I am not a huge fan of the whole mixtape thing but if you are a fan of Fab then you will like it regardless.
He has the usual songs with Paul Kane and some new collaborations with Nicki Manaj and Trey Songs. Fabolous comes off well on most of the songs but some of the lyrical content these days is just so played out. We need new subject matter in Hip-Hop!
Either way check it out!

CD Review: Usher - Raymond V Raymond

Usher is back once again with a solid album that any fan will love.
Some will be a bit disappointed. I think this album could improve a little bit, but it's a good effort, way better than "Here I Stand".
Here I Stand was a solid effort but not highly promoted. This go around it seems Usher decided to go more edgy but still provides the fans with trademark ballads.
Some of the songs just do not sound like Usher songs. The Will.I.Am produced "OMG" sounds like a Black Eyed Peas Song.

Overall, if you like Usher, you'll like this album. It's not his greatest, but it's another solid body of work. He proves he hasn't lose his touch with this record. Anyone new to Usher's music should start with "Confessions."

CD Review: Ludacris - Battle Of The Sexes

I am a pretty big Ludacris fan and it seems like he is on every other song anymore. This could be a good thing or a bad thing if he over does himself and the fans get sick of hearing him. His latest release called "Battle Of The Sexes" is a good CD for those who are all about clubbing, partying, doing drugs, drinking and just having sex and fun in general.

This is a side of Luda that is in straight up party mode. It is a fun CD with many good special guests. Any Ludacris fan would enjoy this CD. The production on it is good. I notice in at least 4 songs he uses a repeated voice sample as his hook which makes it more of a club\dance feel to it. It works!

CD Review: Lil Wayne - Rebirth

Let me start off by saying if you are a hardcore Hip-Hop fan then you most likely will hate this CD. If you are a hardcore Hip-Hop fan that also listens to a variety of other music then you may like this album. It is definitely not the Lil Wayne people are used to hearing.
For a rapper to try to even to attempt to make a rock album where the hooks and style of music is completely different, this CD is a decent Rock/Hip-Hop mash up.

The music is a little dated at times and the use of auto-tune is a bit much where it seems to drown out his voice. If you are thinking of buying this album I highly suggest you listen to it online first. Many of you will probably disappointed.

CD Review: Blood Type - MIAliens

Blood Type is that type of group that makes you fall in love with Hip-Hop again.
Thier new mixtape called "MIAliens" is hosted by DJ Vlad. From the first listen on the lead single "Life is But a Dream" you feel like you have entered the good days of Hip-Hop again where club hits and southern dance rap was not as prevalent as it is today. Please do not get it twisted though because these boys are from the South but they make good southern Hip-Hop music. Instead of simple keyboard production they flow fluently over well produced tracks. The song "Ronnie Romance" is another fine example of what I am talking about. Produced by Stepson, the song has good mellow production and scratching on the chorus which is refreshing to hear and is something that is missing in many songs today!

They do use some industry beats on this mixtape which I am not personally a fan of anymore because I feel artists should not waste time on industry beats and create completely new and original songs all the way down to the music. Even so the group still flows wonderfully showing they are lyrically capable.

Songs like "Live From The 3" really brings out the versatility of this group.
I hope to God Blood Type has a chance to really blow up like they should because it would be a waste of true lyrical talent if they didn't.

CD Review: Ke$ha - Animal

I know many of you are jumping the gun and want to hate on this album because it just seems to be another crap pop record. I say to just give this a chance before you judge. It is a pop album but it also has some Hip-Hop thrown in the mix as well.

Ke$ah has a solid album here with many high energy songs that rival anything out today!
This is for people who like a wide variety of music. So if you are sick of the same old Hip-Hop record or the same old R&B song, then give this a chance for some fun. Good to work out to as well!

CD Review: Mary J Blige - Stronger With Each Tear

This is another very solid album from the great Mary J Blige.
She has grown so much as an artists and it has been a blast watching her grow.

The production is top-notch, much like the fine work on 'Growing Pains'. As always, Mary's voice is magnificent, even on material that is slightly less satisfactory than previous albums.
It's amazing when you can grow with an artist and this album shows her growth. Being there, in that place in your life when they first began. I've been a fan of Mary's all her career. This is Grammy award material!

CD Review: Young Money - We are Young Money

This is a pretty good first CD by Young Money. It is a nice attempt at showcasing the skills of each artist. Too many of the male artists sound alike but Nicki Manaj is pretty original with her flow. She almost sounds like a white girl rapping.

LiL' Wayne is on the album almost every song. The production is good with many unknown producers which is actually refreshing. I am not sure how each artist would do with a solo album but Drake, Lil' Wayne, Nicki Manaj and jae Millz have the best chance of doing well solo. There are almost too many artists on Young Money at the moment!

All in all a solid CD.

CD Review: Snoop Dogg - Malice N Wonderland

Snoop Dogg is one of the most underrated hip hop legends that we have. With a career spanning nearly two decades, a multitude of albums and a plethora of hits through every era since the early 90's, Snoop is rarely mentioned as one of the best to ever do it and that's a shame.

After releasing arguably his worst album last year (or was it two years ago???) in the thoroughly disappointing Ego Trippin, it seems as if the infamous Snoop Dogg has found his mojo again with Malice N Wonderland. The gangsta has returned. No more questionable attempts at singing country or just overwhelmingly bad songs. The melodic flow over gangsta beats oozing with the signature laid back Snoop personality is here. Not since Rhythm & Gangsta has it all blended together so perfectly.

CD Review: Timbaland - Shock Value 2

I have always been a fan of Timbaland. He is so original with his production, He is often copied and he has a huge grip on popular music today.
His new CD is no exception. The track list includes 17 tracks and guest appearances including Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry, Chris Daughtry, Drake and even Miley Cyrus. The Justin Timberlake track "Carry Out" is a the lead single, although this is one of the worst tracks on the CD, I can only hope that Justin starts to get back to the old type of music he made with Timbaland.
From what I have read of this CD, many critics are slamming it and saying it is his worst CD yet. I think it is a good project and it just shows that Timbaland is branching out from Hip-Hop and R&B. If you are a true fan of Timbaland, then you will like this CD.

CD Review: R Kelly - Untitled

R Kelley is back with yet another CD.
No one writes pop songs about sex better than R. Kelly. Maybe practice really does make perfect. Most of the album is typical Kelly. The only downside is when he croons too much and too long about nothing. His story telling way of signing is a little too much sometimes. Kelly fares better when he steps up the tempo, as on new-jack stomper “Supaman High,” Usheresque  club rave-up “I Love the DJ,” and disco-boogie squiggle “Be My #2,” even if  none feel exactly organic to his style.

CD Review: Rihanna - Rated R

This is an album that grows on you. Upon first listening to it, I definitely felt somewhat let down by 'Rated R'. The music is not as catchy; nothing leaps out as a Billboard hit like her signature songs "S.O.S" or "Umbrella". In fact, Rihanna ditches the pop/dance track and takes on a hip-hop/rock vibe instead.
If you're expecting another "Umbrella" or "Disturbia", you may be disappointed as the album is rather dark, atmospheric, and more experimental than its predecessor. It may not sell as well as "Good girl gone bad", but it is certainly a stronger album.
It's a challenging CD, to be sure, as is the packaging. But as a whole, it's probably one of the stronger pop records to come along in a while. I think many of her original fans will not like this CD. These fans need to expand their mind and enjoy this wonderful CD.

CD Review - 50 Cent - Before I Self Destruct

50 Cent delivered real big on this project being his 4th effort. BISD is one of the best albums this year. The set comes with the CD and a DVD movie. It has street bangers that will make you wanna do things yourself, including dance records like "Could've Been You" & "Get It Hot". The stand out records are "So Disrespectful", "Crime Wave", & "Physco". Also has a slow song that is crazy like "Do You Think About Me"!

As for the movie, it's a really well-written, entertaining piece of low-budget pulp. 50 (or Curtis Jackson) as he credits himself, stars as Clarence, a street basketball star whose hoop dreams deflate when he rips up his knee. When his mother is killed in the crossfire by a local gangster, he exacts revenge and is soon hired by Clifton Powell to as a professional hit man.

While Before I Self Destruct is not on the level of something you'd pay to see in the movie theater, the production value, acting and writing is strong for this kind of movie. Clearly, 50 has done his research as far as following the plot mechanisms of gangster and Yakuza flicks. He also keeps the story moving, avoiding indulgence. This easily could've been an extended music video--an ad for the accompanying CD. With the exception of once scene, most of the music is used in the background. Credit NYC film vet J Jesses Smith (co-director) for helping to keep the production tight.

CD Review: Mariah Carey - Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel

I have always been a Mariah fan. She is a complete package. Looks, voice and charm.
Her new CD is a good and solid album from start to finish.
What really stands out here is the music itself has so many different sounds like you heard in the 80's and 90's!! Also, Mariah's 90's vocals are back finally on this album!! Meaning she doesn't sound forced and she lets her voice sing more naturally that she hasn't done in so long.

Her cover of "I Wanna Know What Love is" should be released as a single because it is one the best songs on the CD. Her vocals stand out very well here.

I truly hope this CD does well for her because she deserves it.

CD Review: Raekwon - Only Built For Cuban Linx 2

The long-awaited follow-up to the classic masterpiece 'Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx', Raekwon has gone back to the genre he created back in the 1995 and has created another instant classic in 'Cuban Lynx 2'. The first one was a classic and this one is just as good if not better.

Raekwon's sound takes listeners back to gritty Shaolin of the 1990s; however, the production does not sound like leftover beats from that era. Instead, it is a fresh, new take on NYC street life and drama. Raekwon tells terrific stories throughout, narrating a journey through New York's underbelly. There is no glitz and glamour here. This album features no hollywood name-dropping, european exotic car and exotic vacation destination references and no over use of the words swagger, candy paint or money!

This is a deeper Hip-Hop that is not meant for ringtones and such!

CD Review: 3 The hard Way - Dj Hurricane and Dj Scratchez

This is a well put together mixtape. Some of the artists are Cassidy, G.O.D., Fabolous, Lil Wayne and more. Most of the songs are pretty good exclusives that you do not hear that often. An artist named G.O.D. is a newcomer on this CD. He has a unique flow that keeps you hooked to hear what he is gonna say next. He almost seems too laid back on the track but it works extremely well for him. I have never really been a huge Cassidy fan but all of the Fabolous songs are well worth it. Jay-Z and Fab bless a track called Money Goes, honey Stay which is a remix I have never heard.

CD Review: Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3

I am a huge Jay-Z fan and probably always will be no matter what he puts out. I have an advanced copy of the Blueprint 3 and I must say it is a solid work. The first track "What we talkin' About" is a good solid track to start off the album but it only gets better with the next track "Thank You".

Death Of Autotune is next and although it was leaked pretty early, I still like this song and think it was about time someone said something about all these bullshit autotune artists.

All in all the CD is really worth the buy. It is nice to hear some deeper songs than the typical "candy paint/money money" songs we hear on the radio coming mainly from the south.

Buy this CD if you are a true Jay-Z fan! If you never heard of jay-Z then buy this to represent what real Hip-Hop should sound like. We need deeper thought in Hip-Hop. I think most of you would somewhat agree.

CD Review: Fabolous - Losos Way

I have always been a huge fan of Fabolous. His latest CD is good but pretty much the same old same. I hate to say it but the subject matter in Hip-Hop is getting a bit stale. Everybody is talking about the same stuff. So even for a very talented artist and lyric writer such as Fabolous, he is running out of ideas! In general the CD is solid but I just cannot get over the subject matter. Nothing has really blown my mind in Hip-Hop in a long time. At least he doesnt use auto-tune.
The production is solid but some of the tracks have too much singing!!!

All in all if you are a Fabolous fan then you will most likely enjoy this CD. I can imagine the younger generation of Hip-Hop lovers will really like this CD but for a person like me being a hardcore fan of Hip-Hop for over 25 years, everything is boring!

CD Review: Ginuwine - A Man's Thoughts

Ginuwine has done it again! He has brought R&B back to how it should be!
I have always been a major fan of Ginuwine. Great voice, good dancer and Timbaland in his corner.
Although Timbaland only did one track on this album, he still comes off so well.

Although it took a long time, A Man's Thoughts was worth the wait. Ginuwine has matured in every way and it permeates the songs on this album. Many songs on this album demonstrate the correct way to use pro-tubes, synthesizers, and autotunes. Ginuwine is a soulful singer who sings real R&B, not the pop crap that has been coming out!

Buy this album---nuff said!

CD Review: Justified Homicide - Better Realize

Justified Homicide has a very mid-tempo song flow. None of the songs are too fast and this is purely music to ride to. The first song "Underestimate" is a melodic song that showcases the skills immediately. Justified Homicide is not really breaking any new ground with the lyric content. Basically we have heard the subject matter before. What makes them stick is the delivery. The flow is on point and the lyrics are clear. The production on the CD is good. Has the same theme throughout the album which is a good thing.

Some of the standout tracks are Don't Bother Me, Killa Since Birth and Baby Killa (which you need a sense of humour to listen to).

If you are a fan of murder type Hip-Hop then this is for you. It is a well put together album.

CD Review:Jadakiss - The Last Kiss

I have always been a huge fan of Jadakiss and his latest CD shows that he has grown as an artist.
Upon first listen I was not that impressed but the more I listened, the more it grew on me.

The production is good but like many of today's Hip-Hop tracks, some seem a bit over-produced.
Lyrically he is strong as ever and he has really stepped his game up.

A must buy if you are a Jadakiss fan!

So we've been waiting for this one for a while now! Joe has been putting in work on the mixtape circuit for years, getting much more hype with his Mood Muzik series and Halfway House tape than he ever did with his first CD.
He is a fantastic lyricist. Give this guy one year and a top budget and he'll out do a lot of classic albums. He gets really personal on this CD which puts him at a newer level than before.

Favorite Tracks:
Pray for Me (involving a conversation with God at Heaven's gates)
Exxxes (involving a conversation with Joe's own mental state)
Future (collaboration with The Game)

CD Review: Scarface - Emeritus

First, I'll just mention I am a huge Scarface fan. And therefore, have high expectations. If you aren't familiar with his classic music, you have to listen to a few songs -- I Seen A Man Die, Now I Feel Ya, Mind Playin' Tricks, Hand of the Dead Body, In Between Us -- and definitely get his album, The Diary.

Face has released a strong album with Emeritus. Every single song hits. Very solid production. Each song is beautifully produced with solid bass, mids, and vocals. Seriously. This CD will take full advantage of your entire sound system. Reminds me of the solid full sound of the Chronic. Rush out and buy it, don't download.

Jamie Foxx is surprisingly one of those actor turned singers who is actually good at both!

His new CD is good enough to buy. His first single "Just Like Me" is a great song with a very catchy hook that features T.I.

He has some good guest appearances yet he does not over kill it! Everyone from Fabolous to T-Pain are songs. He has several solo cuts that he really show his skills on.

CD Review: Prince Culture - Quality Vs Quantity

Nowadays it is hard to get a CD from someone I have never heard of and really find the time to listen to it. Mostly because most new Hip-Hop artists suck!

I went out of my way to listen to this artist named Prince Culture. I was pleasantly surprised. The first track is short but shows his skills. The second track is dope and shows that he can really stay on track with the beat. I must say all the way through this CD that this kid has what it takes. I would love to hear him behind some real heavy hitting production. Not that this CD did'nt have good production, it is just that some of the beats were industry.

He needs to show his full potential on a fully produced, full length CD. Lyrically and flow wise he is on point to the tee. I highly suggest you check him out.

CD Review: T Pain - Thr33 Ringz

T Pain and his use of vocoders and auto tune is getting a bit stale. Although he still somehow finds a way to make it work on this new cd. I must admit, he has perfected the vocoder sound. I just wish others would stop biting off him and let him just be the only one doing it.

Everyone from Mary J Blige to T.I. to Diddy appear on this CD and they all sound good. If you are into his popish, r&b style then you will love this cd.

CD Review: Q-Tip - The Renaissence

For those of you who are old school Q-tip or Tribe fans then this is a good album for you!
Q-Tip finally shows us he is the founding father of conscience hip-hop.

The album is solid from start to finish. It is a must pick for old school heads and relevant enough for new Hip-Hop heads!
This Cd is so under the radar that most fans may not even know it is out.

CD Review: Pink - Funhouse

Okay I am sure you are asking why are we reviewing a Pink CD in a Hip-Hop blog. Well, Pink puts it down and has some Hip-Hop influence so here goes. The CD shows an angry side of Pink probably because of her failed marriage. She sounds best angry on songs like "So What" and "Bad Influence". Another higher energy song such as "Funhouse" just sound great. She does have some ballads on here that are good but take some time to get into. Some ballads verge on country sounding but all in all it is a solid CD.

CD Review:G.O.D. - Industry Shakedown

G.O.D. 's new mix CD is hosted by Black Wallstreets Dj L-Gee.
16 tracks of music that hits hard yet has it's ups and downs. G.O.D. has a unique monotone flow that sounds serious and he sounds good but sometimes you just wish he had more energy on some tracks. Lyrically G.O.D. sounds good with well written songs. Production on most tracks is good but some songs still use the "sped up voice sample" that Kanye made famous 3 years ago. Plus some tracks are industry such as track 9 called "New Blood" which takes The Game's instrumental. One song that stands out is "Stick Up" which has a great hook on it that has your head bobbin' the whole way through. The song "Holla back" has a great beat with a Jay-Z voice sample that sounds great. Track 15 called "I'm Da Sh**" is my favorite with a great hook,production and lyrics.

All in all the CD is worth the money.

50 Cent has a new DVD and Album coming soon

50 Cent announced that he will be releasing a new DVD along with his new CD titled "Before I self Destruct". The lead single titled "Get Up" is a banger and the album is expected to have collabs and production by Scott Storch,Dr Dre and Eminem.

The DVD, all written by himself, is supposed to be a shocking reality into inner city life.
50 says “There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city,” 50 Cent said of the feature, which marks his directorial debut. "I made the film for both groups."

I look forward to hearing the CD the most since his last effort which did well on Billboard, was not his hardest CD. This one is said to be darker!

Album Review: Devin The Dude - Landing Gear

Devin The Dude has skills and charm and he always puts out great product. The problem is he has yet to become a huge star. He deserves much more fame and credit than he gets.

This new album is his best to date. He is a true master at telling stories.
His unique flow is truly shown on the songs:
Your Kinda Love and I Can't Make It Home.

I strongly suggest this CD if you are tired of the bullcrap that is on the radio!

CD Review: T.I. - Paper Trail

This is clearly one of the best Hip-Hop Cd's to come out this year. TI clearly put time into this album being on house arrest! Guest appearances include Rihanna, Ludacris, Jay-Z, LiL Wayne, Kanye West and more.

There are only a few tracks that you may want to skip but the album is solid!
The production is solid with bass heavy drums that you would expect from the south.

Kanye West Changes release date of new CD

Kanye decided to change his release date the upcoming titled "808s and Heartbreak" from December to sometime in November. This totally eliminates a huge showdown between him and 50 cent because 50 cent was releasing his next CD in December as well. If you can recall last year the big frenzy of a showdown between who would sell the most records in the first week of both of their last releases. Of course Kanye outsold him then. I am still unsure of how Kanye will fare this CD with alot of fans disappointed at the preview of one of his new songs at the MTV VMA's.

Plus the rumor that he may use the vocoder on his vocals almost the whole disc sounds a little played out if you ask me! We shall see!

CD Review:Joe - Joe Thomas,New Man

I was a little upset when I first gave this CD a listen. Joe seems to have gone way off from his normal "adult contemporary R&B" style to "younger R&B" like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.

The problem with this is that Joe does not need to do this. He is a great singer and he should stick to what he does best which is the style we fell in love with prior albums before.

The CD is still decent and enjoyable but not JOE!

Andre 3000 plans to release a new CD

Andre 3000 has plans to release a new album by the end of the year. He did not give too many details but says he has a vision and just needs to figure out how to get there.

He also said not to expect anything really on the collaboration side because he like s to just work by himself.

The album should be pretty unique and probably not for all hardcore Hip-Hop fans.

Irv Gotti returning to VH-1

It looks like Murder Inc. CEO Irv Gotti will be returning to reality TV on VH-1.
We were told season two of Gotti's Way will focus on the breakup of his troubled marriage.

I enjoyed the first season but I was surprised to hear of a second season considering every Hip-Hop artist is trying to get a reality TV deal. I'm thinking soon the people will tire of it!

CD Review - Nelly - Brass Knuckles

If you are a fan of Nelly's older material then this album is for you!
Many of the new school heads may not like this CD as much.
Some of the guest spots on the CD were a surprise such as LL Cool J and Public Enemies Chuck D.
Both are solid songs. Other guests include Rick Ross,T.I.,Snoop and Nate Dogg,R. Kelly and Usher.
Not to mention last summers over played Party People with Fergie.

Its a solid CD with good production but it may not be for true underground Hip-Hop fans!

Queen Latifah turns to Dr Dre for new album

Wow! Latifah has a seventh solo album coming out this winter and she has enlisted Dr Dre,Swizz Beats and Missy Elliot to help produce it. Should be interesting since she has not put out a serious Hip-Hop album in years. Last year she released the Jazz CD Trav'lin Light.

Gucci Mane Jailed for one year

Gucci Mane has been jailed, after he failed to complete mandatory community service.

Feds say he only served 25 of 600 hours of his community service and violated his probation multiple times by using alcohol, marijuana and ecstasy.

He was also accused of serious offenses, Driving Under the Influence, marijuana possession and possession of a weapon by a felon in July.

DMX Arrested in Phoenix

Rapper DMX was arrested and jailed in Phoenix and being held in custody on a 25,000 bond.
DMX was originally arrested by Miami police outside of a Wal-Mart, after he failed to appear at a mandatory pretrial conference related to drugs charges in Phoenix.

He faces one count of marijuana possession and four counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Yet he still faces felony theft charges related to allegations that he gave a fake name at an Arizona medical clinic, as well as seven counts of animal cruelty.

We hear that he also is working on a reality TV show that will follow him through his home life and legal situations.

How many Hip-Hop artist are going to go the reality TV route?

The only one that has really worked for multiple seasons is Run's House.

Album Review: LL Cool J - Exit 13

I have always been an LL Cool J fan. His last CD I hated because of his "softer songs".
This new one tries to keep his hardcore fans happy and his "soft side" fans (The ladies) happy as well.
He has plenty of guest appearences such as Wyclef and Fat Joe but I think the new school cats will not take him seriously. LL even seems to be doubting himself wondering if he is still relevant or not. The man for sure has skills but it may be time to hang up the MIC!

Album Review-Onyx - Cold Case Files

Onyx is one of my favorite Hip-Hop groups of all time. The grimy and very street mad rap is hardcore and still crazy as ever. On their sixth album "Cold Case Files", they come off as underground as ever.
The beats are simple yet grimy and the lyrics are hardcore.
One of the standout cuts "Evil Streets" features Method Man and is pure old school Onyx!

New school heads may not appreciate this album but if you are an old school Onyx fan then this is decent enough to get.

MC Breed is on life support

MC Breed, known for his hit single "Ain't No Future in Yo Frontin'" collapsed while playing a basketball game in Atlanta yesterday evening.

The problem...............Kidney failure. He is now on life support clinging for his life in hopes of a donor!
Throughout his 17 year career, he has released 15 albums mostly on independent labels!

Album Review: Young Jeezy-The Recession

I have really started to like Young Jeezy. He is pure street! Plus he has solid lyrics with an original flow that is raspy and tight!

The beats are tight and clearly go with his style of flow.
The song "Hustlas Ambition" is really good with the typical Jeezy lyrics.

One of the last tracks called "My President" is a good song over a medium pace track. The song has some reference to the political things going on in the USA at this moment!

Is the T-Pain voice too much?

I have never seen a genre of music that really uses something to death!
Hip-Hop is music famous for not being a "biter" or someone who steals a style or rhyme, but lately that is thrown out of the window.

T-Pain started putting out songs using a vocoder on his vocals which gives it a unique computer type vibe to it made famous by Roger Troutman back in the days.

Now 8 out of ten songs are using it from Lil Wayne on Lollipop (which I liked) to Kanye West and more. Now it has come to a point where I am so sick of hearing. It is dead and in the ground!

We need more original themes in Hip-Hop or it will evolve into something worse than what it has become. Another overly used term in Hip-Hop is "make it rain in the club".

I swear to god if I hear that phrase again I am going to throw my Sirius radio out the car window!
